Building home additions is an exciting and large task. There’s a lot that goes in to home additions, and if you are not prepared, you may start to feel overwhelmed. We want to help you feel confident and happy before, during, and after the home addition is completed. There are several things you can do to help the process of building home additions go more smoothly and be less stressful. Our tips to help you enjoy the process of building a home addition are:
- Prepare for Work Crews in Your Home – Before and during your home addition, you will have many contractors and workers coming in and out of your home. This can feel invasive if you are not mentally prepared for it. We recommend that you prepare yourself as best you can to be open to having people you may not know in your home working, inspecting, and cleaning. You may want to set up a special place in another area of the home where you can go to get some “alone time” if you feel overwhelmed while the work is being done.
- Choose Working Hours Carefully – You may be tempted to say that you are okay with work being completed on the weekend and after typical working hours of the week. This may sound appealing because your home addition will get done faster, but you also need to consider your mental stress as well as the noise this may cause for your neighbors. Make a reasonable schedule and tell your contractor that work needs to be completed during specific times of the day or week.
- Take Care of Yourself – It may be tempting to want to be in your home while all of the work is being done. But this can get very draining on a homeowner. We recommend that you make sure to take time for yourself outside of your home. Going for hikes, visiting your favorite bookstore, or just going out to eat can be a much-needed break from the noise and stress of your home’s transformation.
