Wood Decks vs. Composite Decks

Home > Home Renovation Blog > Wood Decks vs. Composite Decks

If you are thinking about installing a new deck, then you are also probably aware that there are several deck materials to choose from. Two of our most popular deck options are composite decks and wood decks. Below we will discuss some of the differences between these two deck types, as well as some of the pros and cons.

Wood Decks vs. Composite Decks

  • Composite Decks – Composite decks are low-maintenance and do not require staining, painting, or sanding. They are durable and will not rot, splinter or warp. They come in many colors and stains and look very similar to real wood. The maintenance of composite decks is very minimal, with the only requirement being a soap and water wash. The cost of composite decks is higher than wood decks.
  • Wood Decks – The biggest advantage of wood decking is the cost. It is far less expensive than composite decking. Wood decks come in a range of prices depending on what wood is used. Another benefit of wood decking is that it looks, feels, and even smells like real wood. The maintenance of wood decks is far more intensive than composite decks. Wood decks require regular sanding, staining, and painting.
